It is essential to appropriately read emotions from the faces and voices of others for smooth interpersonal communication. We study how emotional perception is formed based on culture and personal experiences.

How do we understand languages? We apply eye-tracking and other methods during reading and talking to explore how our minds work when we understand language.

While the vast majority of research has focused on verbal communication as well as nonverbal communication through facial and vocal expressions, another universal and powerful medium of communication is music. We study musical communication through experiments using physiological and motion measurement techniques.
